SONORA - Stanislaus National Forest officials are seeking public comment on several applications the forest is making for California State Parks funding for projects in the forest related to dirt bikes, snowmobiles and other off-highway vehicles.

The forest is seeking $67,000 in state money for projects that would maintain off-highway vehicle trails throughout the forest, fund enforcement of rules related to off-highway vehicles, and close off [certain] illegal OHV access points.

SONORA — At least 11 groups have appealed new rules on motorized travel that were to take effect Tuesday in the Stanislaus National Forest.

Environmentalists, four-wheel-drive enthusiasts and other parties challenged the rules, which Forest Supervisor Susan Skalski approved Nov. 12.

The rules will be delayed while the appeals are considered by Regional Forester Randy Moore, who oversees national forests in California. He can accept, reject or modify Skalski's decision.
